RAW ArtWorks is in Lynn, a city where 76% of the kids grow up at or near the poverty line. Where its high school dropout rate is 47% higher than the state’s average and 25% of its residents don’t hold a high school diploma.
And Yet… 100% of RAW’s teen artists who participated in its Project Launch college prep and career program received their high school diplomas, 27% of whom were the FIRST in their family to graduate from high school. For the past five years over 90% of RAW seniors got into college and were awarded over $1 million in scholarships and financial aid. Close to 80% of these teens could be the first in their family to get a college degree.
How? RAW’s highly structured, intensely considered programming for kids ages 7 to 19, developed by a team of art therapists who hold Master’s degrees, uses art to teach coping mechanisms, literacy, responsibility, problem solving skills, project management, self-confidence and the benefits of perseverance.
