SheGives Launch Lemonade

Smart Women. Smart Giving… SheGives launched with a party on September 9th, 2013 with rooftop cocktails. We’re tempted to believe that the huge turn-out was owing to the perfectly gorgeous night, the incredibly interesting women and, of course, a drive to dive into our platform for intelligent individual philanthropy. But since everyone kept asking for the recipe for the SheGives launch party lemonade cocktail, we are wondering whether word had gotten out about that as well.

Since you asked, here is the recipe:

She Gives Launch Lemonade

· 1¼ cups simple syrup
· 2 cups fresh lemonade with pulp
· 1½ cups vodka
· 20 large basil leaves, roughly torn
· 4 large basil leaves for garnish
· Lemon wedges

Simple syrup

· 1 cup water
· 1 cup sugar

1. Combine water and sugar in a small saucepan on high heat.
Bring to a boil, then simmer for a few minutes until sugar is
completely dissolved and mixture is slightly thickened. Let cool.
Yield should be about 1 1/4 cups.

2. In a bowl, muddle basil and simple syrup until it forms
a paste. Put basil syrup into a pitcher and add lemonade and vodka.
Let sit for about 20 minutes to allow basil
flavor to infuse the lemonade. (Don’t prepare too far in
advance as basil will start to discolor and turn black after a few hours).

3. Serve over ice, in your favorite glass with a sprinkle of basil
pieces and a lemon wedge.

Makes 6-8 drinks, depending on how they’re served – Enjoy!

SheGives connects committed, inquisitive, engaged funders with a slate of diligenced nonprofits in the Greater Boston area.  We provide members with relevant data about the nonprofits in our portfolio and an opportunity to meet directly with our nonprofits’ Executive Directors and senior staff in small settings that promote in-depth q&a’s and, ultimately, informed giving.  Giving is personally driven, but because we give side-by-side our collective impact is greater.
