Q: You’ve been with CBD for 13 years, what did you do before joining the organization?
A: I was a Program Coordinator of a family service center in Blythe, CA.
Q: Did that prepare you to work for College Bound Dorchester?
A: I also did BEST youth worker training (a professional development program to spread the use of best practices in youth work and youth development).
Q: What is your job like?
A: I provide support and oversight to a group of personable, persistent, dedicated staff who bring hope, challenge and support to students whose academic experiences have been unfulfilling thus far.
Q: What have you learned in your role at College Bound Dorchester?
A: It doesn’t make sense to be angry, annoyed or impatient if and when young people present to you the characteristics symptomatic of the challenges you have invited them to come deal with.
SheGives connects committed, inquisitive, engaged funders with a slate of diligenced nonprofits in the Greater Boston area. We provide members with relevant data about the nonprofits in our portfolio and an opportunity to meet directly with our nonprofits’ Executive Directors and senior staff in small settings that promote in-depth q&a’s and, ultimately, informed giving. Giving is personally driven, but because we give side-by-side our collective impact is greater.
I love your answer to the last question, Leslie. As in, “Yeah, right. It doesn’t.”
