Board Chair, The New England Center for Children
Q: WHAT IS THE MOST EXCITING THING GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW?
A: Personally, there’s never a dull moment raising four kids. But professionally, I get so much from being the Board Chair for The New England Center for Children (NECC).
Q: FOUR KIDS, WOW. AND WHAT IS NECC?
A: NECC’s goal is to expand its reach so that thousands more children with autism can receive the treatment they need. For instance, NECC developed an online autism curriculum used by children around the world. And the organization is raising money to construct an institute for research and training.
Q: SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT ORGANIZATION. NOW BACK TO THAT CRAZY NUMBER OF KIDS. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND TIME TOGETHER AS A FAMILY?
A: I love bringing friends and family together at a house we rent in Geyserville, California. You can’t beat tubing on Lake Sonoma, hiking through a redwood forest, or canoeing down the Russian River, followed by some of the best food and wine in the country.
Q: HOW WONDERFUL. TO CLOSE, WHO BROUGHT YOU INTO SHEGIVES, AND WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT HER?
A: Kirstan brought me to SheGives. There is no one who loves life and the people in it like Kirstan Barnett. Her enthusiasm is infectious, so when she told me about SheGives, I was all in.
SheGives connects committed, inquisitive, engaged funders with a slate of diligenced nonprofits in the Greater Boston area. We provide members with relevant data about the nonprofits in our portfolio and an opportunity to meet directly with our nonprofits’ Executive Directors and senior staff in small settings that promote in-depth q&a’s and, ultimately, informed giving. Giving is personally driven, but because we give side-by-side our collective impact is greater.
WhoIsShe is a regular column featuring an appreciative but sometimes irreverent conversation with a SheGives Member.
