Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC/MUSICIAN? HOW DID YOU ORIGINALLY FIND IT/THEM?

A: As a music-lover, one of my favorite things about this time of year is the music. From my overly-large, holiday music library, I am currently completely taken with an instrumental version of “O‘Holy Night,” played by Troy Andrews and other New Orleans horn players on the last episode of the short-lived show, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. It’s gorgeous and has a great backstory, too. Check it out here. I was introduced to the piece by my significant other, also a music lover, who not only puts up with my holiday music obsession, but adds to it when he finds something worthy. I’m also loving Benjamin Britten’s “Ceremony of Carols,” which I’ve been listening to since I was a kid. It never grows old.

Q: SO WHO BROUGHT YOU INTO SHEGIVES? WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT HER?

A: Kirstan Barnett. I’ve known her since high school and the qualities I love now are the same as they were, back then. In addition to her brilliance, creativity, infectious enthusiasm and charm, she has a huge heart. And, she’s a ton of fun.

Q: FUN IS IMPORTANT. BESIDES KEEPING THE BOOKS AT SHEGIVES, WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO GO AND WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN?

A: I love the coast of Maine and in particular finding an emptied beach on summer afternoons to park myself until dusk, which is my favorite time of day. I also love the early mornings – I get up way before anyone else and always feel like I’ve found time. I love to read, cook and dine out. Running and yoga are good friends that have kept me company for years. I love music, live or otherwise, and sing along (despite protests), when possible. Hands-down, my favorite thing is spending time with my daughter.

Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SONG TO SING ALONG TO? WHICH ONE BRINGS THE HOUSE DOWN (IN A GOOD WAY)?

A: Favorite? Wow, there are so many. Lately, it’s “Midnight in Harlem” by the Tedeschi Trucks Band – beautiful and bluesy with great lyrics. And it’s hard not to sing along to “Wagon Wheel” by Old Crow Medicine Show and Shawn Colvin’s cover of “Naïve Melody.”

SheGives connects committed, inquisitive, engaged funders with a slate of diligenced nonprofits in the Greater Boston area.  We provide members with relevant data about the nonprofits in our portfolio and an opportunity to meet directly with our nonprofits’ Executive Directors and senior staff in small settings that promote in-depth q&a’s and, ultimately, informed giving.  Giving is personally driven, but because we give side-by-side our collective impact is greater.
