Q: How long have you worked at GLAD?

A: I have been working at GLAD for a little over a year now, since September 2014.

Q: What did you do before working here?

A: I spent a year working with Boston middle and high school students. I worked in a middle school as an AmeriCorps City Year member, and I ran a youth program at Victory Programs’ ReVision Farm.

Q: What job or training best prepared you to work here?

A: Prior to working at GLAD, I held internships with Governor Deval Patrick’s office and with another Boston-based organization focused on LGBTQ rights. These internships provided me with a familiarity of Massachusetts politics and the Massachusetts legal system, particularly as it pertains to the LGBTQ community.

Q: What did you have to learn to do in order to be able to do your job?

A: I learned (and am still learning!) how to read, analyze, and synthesize cases. Over time, I’ve gained a much greater understanding of how our judicial and legislative processes work. More generally, I also learned to create a system that keeps me organized; working for multiple attorneys means that I have to keep track of a plethora of assignments, projects, and deadlines.

SheGives connects committed, inquisitive, engaged donors with a slate of diligenced nonprofits in the Greater Boston area. We provide members with relevant data about the nonprofits in our portfolio and an opportunity to meet directly with our nonprofits’ Executive Directors and senior staff in small settings that promote in-depth q&a’s and, ultimately, informed giving. Giving is personally driven, but because we give side-by-side our collective impact is greater. See a list of the vetted nonprofits selected for our slate here.
