Q: WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

A: I am truly inspired by the work of not-for-profit organizational leaders. This is why I absolutely love Alexander Aronson Finning CPA’s! The firm has been servicing the not-for-profit industry for over 40 years and it is 50% of our practice. We get to be a part of organizations changing the world. I am also deeply inspired by serving on the Jordan Matthew Porco Foundation board. My cousin and her husband started this foundation to prevent suicide among teenagers. Their son committed suicide at age 18 as a freshman in college. The foundation created Fresh Check Day – a day of programming on college campuses for freshman. In three years we have raised $2 million and have saved children’s lives. Our goal is have this program on every campus nationwide. No matter what the mission, together we can make a difference.

Q: THANK YOU FOR SHARING THAT. I MUST SAY, YOU SOUND TERRIBLY BUSY! WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING IN YOUR (LIMITED) FREE TIME?

A: You’re right, running a regional CPA firm does not allow for a lot of free time! When I do get it, I enjoy spending it with my family. My daughter is 11 and my son is 8. Our family time is usually centered around our kids’ activities, baseball and gymnastics meets. Our vacations are usually outdoors – skiing, hiking, biking or beach!

Q: SOUNDS LOVELY. DOES YOUR FAMILY HAVE FAVORITE SLOPES, TRAILS, OR BEACH SPOTS?

A: We ski and hike the mountains around North Conway, NH. My kids learned to ski at the Cranmore ski school. Last year we went to Colorado skiing, which was an incredible experience for the kids. Hard to ski here after that! No favorite beach spots, any beach will do.

Q: TO WIND UP, WHO BROUGHT YOU INTO SHEGIVES? WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT HER?

A: I was brought into SheGives by Laura Gassner Otting, a complete rock star! I have known Laura for about 10 years – we met as founding board members of Strong Women, Strong Girls, a Boston nonprofit dedicated to mentoring young women. What I like best about Laura is her complete passion and dedication not only to her business but to non-for-profits that create social change. She loves connecting people, which is something I always try to do.

SheGives connects committed, inquisitive, engaged donors with a slate of diligenced nonprofits in the Greater Boston area. We provide members with relevant data about the nonprofits in our portfolio and an opportunity to meet directly with our nonprofits’ Executive Directors and senior staff in small settings that promote in-depth q&a’s and, ultimately, informed giving. Giving is personally driven, but because we give side-by-side our collective impact is greater. See a list of the vetted nonprofits selected for our slate here.
