Q: WELCOME AMY, WE’RE THRILLED TO HAVE YOU JOINING OUR SECOND YEAR TEAM OF SHEGIVES FELLOWS! TO START, WHAT IS THE MOST EXCITING THING GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW?

A: The most exciting thing in my life right now is starting grad school at BU in September. I’ll be studying “Applied Communication Research,” meaning I’ll be learning how to design research campaigns through polls and surveys, as well as focus groups and other techniques. I’ll also be learning how to analyze and apply the information gathered through these techniques. These are skills that I didn’t get to focus on during my time as an undergrad and I’m excited to continue to learn and grow.

Q: SO SHOULD WE BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR YOU DOING RESEARCH ANALYSIS DURING THE NEXT BIG POLITICAL CAMPAIGN? HOW DO YOU ENVISION YOUR CAREER UNFOLDING?

A: Definitely! I’m really interested in how communication, like social media, direct mail, and advertising, influences elections. I’m also passionate about getting people involved in our government so you will also find me volunteering in some way. After I finish grad school, I plan to stay in Boston for at least a few years. I’ve always felt like Boston is a really wonderful city to start out in because there is so much happening here. I plan to gain experience using my research skills to help nonprofit organizations make the greatest possible impact. With my more political interests, I see myself eventually moving to Washington DC to become involved with government through polls and research. I would also be perfectly happy to be a part of the communications team for any of the incredible museums located there, however.

Q: AND NOW FOR SOMETHING A LITTLE LIGHTER! WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES IN BOSTON?

A: There are so many places in Boston that I can’t get enough of! Just to name a few: I love to go to the Boston Public Library when I need to get work done or just have a nice quiet space. I also love to go to the esplanade to relax and spend time with friends. I can often be found at the Friday night family movie at the hatch shell during the summer. I also enjoy spending afternoons at the MFA or wandering along the Freedom Trail.

Q: BACK TO SHEGIVES, WHAT KIND OF THINGS CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE ON THE SHEGIVES BLOG THIS YEAR?

A: I’ll be working to keep everyone updated on news, events, and other great things happening at Raw Artworks, My Life My Choice, Science Club for Girls, and MoS: Engineering is Elementary. You will also be hearing from me as I interview some of the wonderful people working at these nonprofits as well as some of the amazing SheGives members.

SheGives connects committed, inquisitive, engaged donors with a slate of diligenced nonprofits in the Greater Boston area. We provide members with relevant data about the nonprofits in our portfolio and an opportunity to meet directly with our nonprofits’ Executive Directors and senior staff in small settings that promote in-depth q&a’s and, ultimately, informed giving. Giving is personally driven, but because we give side-by-side our collective impact is greater. See a list of the vetted nonprofits selected for our slate here.

WhoIsShe is a regular column featuring an appreciative but sometimes irreverent conversation with a SheGives Member.
